The old countries of the world, as seen in Grandpa Rome's time. Hopefully, I got the names right. It's really hard finding the names of the old Roman provinces. thankfully, my dad is a history geek. I pray that I got the Slavic ancestor's name right. That region is what produced the current Slavic countries I believe. I wonder if I should draw a Celtic ancestor...
Descriptions:
Ancient Greece the first love of Rome, whom he loved so much that he based his entire culture off hers. Ancient Greece was once a noble power, stretching her influences far and wide. Her favorite ruler was Alexander, whom she held much affection for. After his death, however, she became increasingly restless, eventually becoming the Byzantine Empire due to outside pressures. Ancient Greece met her end at the hands of her son Turkey (then called the Ottoman Empire).
Ancient Egypt Romes second love, whom he won over towards the end of his life. Ancient Egypt is considerably older than Rome and Ancient Greece as well. She was a beautiful woman, though heavily rooted in the ways of the old world. In her lifetime, Ancient Egypt created many marvels, including the mysterious pyramids and enigmatic Sphinx. Unfortunately, her love affair with Rome was her downfall; shortly after joining his empire, she vanished, leaving behind her son, Modern Egypt.
Gaul When Rome first met Gaul, she seemed rather barbaric to him and he strove to civilize her. Gradually, she did become more civilized, but never did lose her brash nature. She ended up blending her culture with that of Rome, creating something entirely new. However, that blending ended up smudging out what little remained of Romes influence when he died. For many years, Gaul was the subject of much strife and war before she died from the stress. She left her son, France (then called Francia), to fight for his birthright against Britain.
Magyar a relative and father figure of Hungary who raised her and taught her to fight. Hes partially responsible for her rather boyish personality, raising her to believe she was a boy. He has a slightly arrogant personality and did not approve at all of his daughter's marriage to Austria. Magyar appears from time to time to give advice to his daughter, but for the most part is never seen.
Baltia the almost mythic ancestor of the Balkans. Rome only met her once on his conquests. She appeared to him in a thick cover of mist and seemed to vanish back into the sea once he spied her. He described her as a maiden of amber hair, more beautiful than the sunset itself. Rome tried in vain many times to find Baltia again, but never did. Some say that shes still on her lone island, awaiting the day Rome will find her again.
Scandia the grandfather of Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and (adpotively) Norway. He led the first Viking raids down into Europe and the British Isles. When he came home, he often told fantastic stories to his grandsons, sometimes making the battles and villains seem larger than life. Once his grandsons were old enough, he set them on their ways, disappearing and never seen again. Sweden, Denmark and Norway remember their grandfather by the collective name for their countries, Scandinavia.
Sami An ancestor of Finland and Norway. (the Sami are indigenous people of Norway. They inhabited the areas that are now Finland, the Balkans and Belarus during Rome's time.) She wandered the world for many centuries, before finally settling down. Sami was a love interest of Scandia, who brought her into the world of Vikings and raids. She, however, didnt care much for that lifestyle and eventually returned to her nomadic ways.
Slav the mother of the southern slavic countries. She was driven southward from Eastern Europe and settled in the area now occupied by the southern Slavic countries. Slav is also the sister of Moravia and Kievan Rus. She had some bad spats with Magyar and Austria and then Hungary. Of all the antique countries, she was the last to die.
Saxony a daughter of Germania, still alive today. She led several successful invasions into Britannia and established a new colony. She is an accomplished warrior and wanted nothing but approval from her father. Because of her flat chest, she often gets mistaken for a boy, much to her outrageous ire. Saxony never stopped believing that her little brother survived his battle with France.
Bavaria a younger son of Germania, still alive today. He joined his little brother, the Holy Roman Empire after Romes death and was caught up in the 30 years War. Bavaria suffered greatly, nearly dying from the onslaught of attacks. Later, France gave Bavaria his own kingdom, thought it didnt last long. He supported Austria in war against his brother Prussia, but when Austria lost, he switched sides rather quickly.
Franconia a younger daughter of Gaul, now living with Bavaria. She was born shortly after France and is somewhat of a twin sister to him. For most of her life, she lived with France (then called Francia). Her lands were divided into two regions and it wasnt until more recent times that she came to live with Bavaria. She is no longer a country, but now a mere region, living in the shadow of Bavaria.

not really. Rome completely ignored the Irelands (too much trouble with Scotland^^). They would have been more involved with Scandia, cause that's who basically founded the country.
